I think this movie is not for the first time viewers or even not so hard core fans. Rogue One is more like a fan movie than a serious star wars movie. I am not saying I am disappointed in it. No. Production quality is excellent but, the story line is kind of poor, and the ship, Rogue One, is a more than normal empire shipping ship and destroyed soon after it is named. Oh btw almost everybody is dead in the end. How could anybody be happy with this?!
And the IMAX 3D, I was skeptic towards 3D in the movies. Now that 3D is almost dead in the TV market I though 3D is bond to disappear in a year or two. But I wonder why my local theatres only provide 2 versions of this movie, one is normal 2D, and the other is IMAX 3D. I just want to watch it on a IMAX screen but in 2D but hey, there is no such option.
At first about 20 minutes into the movie my girlfriend felt sick and had to take off the 3D glasses. Then I myself felt silly because, in a 3D movie you can only see what the director wants you to see, like the character who is talking or the ship that is flying away. In a traditional 2D setup, when people get bored they can look at other things, the sky, the building in the distance, etc. But now in 3D everything in the background is blurred out. That's, frustrating. When things move around on the screen you are gonna be frustrated even more because you are forced to move around your eyeballs just to get a clear focused picture.
Anyways, I think next time I am going to a 2D. 3D is dead to me. And as for the Rogue One? Well let's forget about it.
